Program Description: The Associate of Science degree in Music Technology is designed for students who intend to seek employment in the commercial music field and for those who are presently employed in the music technology field and desire advancement. Some of the careers, to which this sequence may lead, are recording engineer, sound designer, live sound reinforcement engineer and producer. Visit program’s website for more information.

The National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) accredits Broward College. Declared music students MUST contact advising through the Visual & Performing Arts (V&PA) Department by calling 954-201-6843 or e-mailing vpadept@broward.edu at the beginning of their studies.

Students are recommended to take MGF1106 FOUNDATIONS OF MATHEMATICAL REASONING or MGF1107 SURVEY OF MATHEMATICS to fulfill the general education math credit. MGF1106 FOUNDATIONS OF MATHEMATICAL REASONING and MGF1107 SURVEY OF MATHEMATICS do not require prerequisites. MAC1105C COREQUISITE COLLEGE ALGEBRA is a 5-credit course. Students who register for this course must see an advisor to discuss their academic plan.

Applied Music Electives (MVXXXXX and most MUNXXXX courses) are restricted classes. These courses must be registered with the V&PA Department each term.

Music Technology Electives: MUH2019 DEVELOPMENT OF AMERICAN POPULAR MUSIC, MUM2730 MUSIC MARKETING AND PROMOTION, MUM2602C MIXING, MASTERING AND DELIVERY, or GEB1011 INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS. MUM2602C MIXING, MASTERING AND DELIVERY must be taken in the last semester.

MUS2940 MUSIC TECHNOLOGY CO-OP WORK EXPERIENCE is a restricted course. Students are encouraged to research and apply for an internship in their preferred field, with a legitimate and active organization. To enroll, the internship site must be approved by the Program Manager.

Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates from this program will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of musical structure, listening skills, key centers, and basic rhythm foundations in 4/4 time signature.
- Demonstrate mastery of the following time-based effects: Delay (including chorus, flanging, and phasing), Reverb, and Pitch-shifting.
- Demonstrate mastery of signal flow in both the DAW and in analog applications.
- Demonstrate understanding and mastery of the following time-based effects: Volume, Panning, Equalization and Compression.
- Demonstrate the ability to mix and reinforce sound in a variety of studio and live environments.
