Program Description: This program is designed for students who hope to work in the field of law enforcement as crime scene technicians and/or police service aides and/or law enforcement officers. The program provides students with the knowledge, skills and training necessary to perform quality work as a crime scene technician, including the collection, preservation, documentation and presentation of criminal evidence. Students will also learn about the criminal justice and criminal courts system. This AS degree does not qualify students for state certification as a law enforcement or corrections officer. To become certified as a corrections or law enforcement officer a student must complete a Florida state certified Basic Recruit Training Program (Police Academy or Corrections Academy). All courses under the TC column are required to earn the Technical Certificate (TC) in Crime Scene. Students completing the AS degree will earn the TC and the AS upon completion. Some classes have pre-requisites that must be followed.
Students may have to take MAC1105C COREQUISITE COLLEGE ALGEBRA based on placement score. If the student needs this course, then 2 credits from this course may be utilized as an elective. Students that anticipate transferring to FAU’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice program, should take two foreign language courses for their electives due to the program’s foreign language requirements. Students do have the option of taking CLEP exams for the foreign language courses. Should students not take two foreign language courses or take CLEP exams for those courses, then students who have completed their A.A. or A.S. that transfer into FAU’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice program will have to take the two foreign language courses at FAU which will be in addition to the 60 credits needed to complete their bachelor’s.
Students must satisfy the Digital Literacy requirement by testing out, completing a Credit for Prior Learning portfolio, or passing CGS1060C COMPUTER AND INTERNET LITERACY.

- Graduates will be able to perform specific skills including but not limited to identification and recovery of crime scene evidence, visual documentation of crime scene, tests and/or analysis of recovered evidence and proper preservation of evidence per legal requirements.
- Graduates will be able to demonstrate an understanding and apply the basic principles of crime scene report writing, sketching, and photography.
- Graduates will demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate via writing assignments.
- Graduates will be able to adequately prepare for courtroom testimony and participate at an acceptable level in a mock court trial.
