Introduction to construction materials covering the evaluation of construction materials, functional applications and code requirements in the use of wood, masonry, concrete, and steel framing, door, window and roofing assemblies, wall, floor and ceiling finishes.

This is the first in a two-course sequence of construction drawing courses. The first half of the semester will include a review of basic drafting techniques. The second half will be devoted to an in-depth study of residential construction working drawings and how they are prepared. AutoCAD will be used extensively as one of the tools for preparing drawings.

This course is designed to provide an overview of construction documents and to develop the student's ability to quickly interpret working drawings. Emphasis is on architectural and structural details with limited coverage on mechanical and electrical aspects.

Principles and practices of 2-D computer aided drafting (CAD) employed in the construction industry and basic principles of surveying.

Fundamentals of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, equipment, Florida Building Code requirements, and coordinate construction work. Sustainability standards and their role in the construction process will be discussed.

A study of the techniques and skills needed to plan, manage, and oversee the processes involved in building construction industry. A computer applications software is used in the course.
