ENL2012  BRITISH LITERATURE TO 1798  (3.00 Credits)
Traces the development of the thematic, linguistic, and literary characteristics of British literature up to the 18th century. Emphasis will be placed on Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Swift, and authors that reflect the changing literary canon. ENL2012 is a writing credit course. Students must earn a minimum grade of C to meet the requirements for the Gordon Rule for writing. ENL2012 meets the International/ Intercultural competency requirement.

ENL2022  BRITISH LITERATURE SINCE 1798  (3.00 Credits)
This course offers a survey of major British writers representing the Romantic, Victorian, and Modern periods, while emphasizing recognition of the major movements in British literature since 1750. Representative texts may include all genres, including fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction. Students will study such texts to understand their immediate historical significance and the ways in which these writings continue to show universal, contemporary relevance. Assessment comprises basic written analysis of selected works in English literature from each period. ENL2022 is a writing course. Students must earn a minimum grade of C to meet the requirements of the Gordon Rule for writing. ENL2022 meets the International/Intercultural competency requirement.

ENL2330  INTRODUCTION TO SHAKESPEARE  (3.00 Credits)
This course serves as an introduction to Shakespeares plays and poetry, from sonnets and narrative poems to some of the most influential histories, romances, tragedies, and comedies written in English during the renaissance period. This course pays special attention to recognition of the major characteristics of Shakespeares texts, while reinforcing reading comprehension and critical thinking through basic written analysis of selected works. ENL2330 likewise emphasizes Shakespeares status as an icon of Western literature whose characters, stories, and themes have universal, contemporary relevance. ENL2330 is a writing credit course. Students must earn a minimum grade of C to meet the requirements of the Gordon Rule for writing. ENL2330 meets the International/Intercultural competency requirement.
