Associate of Arts - Honors
Program Description
The Associate of Arts (AA) degree is the traditional transfer degree. Students who earn the AA are able to remain at Broward College, transfer to another state college, or a state university in order to continue their education and pursue a baccalaureate degree. The Associate of Arts – Honors degree is for students admitted to the Robert “Bob” Elmore Honors College of Broward College.
Program Entrance Requirements
HS Diploma or GED, Broward College application, and Honors College application. Honors eligibility criteria is as follows:
- Incoming high school students1
- High School GPA: 3.5 unweighted or
- Test Scores
- SAT: 1170 (minimum 550 reading and 550 math)
- ACT: 22 (minimum 21 English, 21 math, 22 reading)
- PERT: 113 reading, 123 math, 123 writing
- Current/Transfer students
- Eligible for college-level math, English, and reading courses
- Earned at least 6 college-level credits
- 3.5 Overall/Honors GPA for all completed college-level coursework
- “Gap” Year Students2
Current Broward College students who cannot meet the above criteria due to a lower than 3.5 Overall/Honors GPA and who began their college career at Broward College or a different university/institution can be given permission to register for Honors classes if they meet the following:- Have at least one year in between their previous enrollment at Broward College or at their other previous university/institution
- Earned at least 6 college-level credits at Broward College
- 3.5 Broward Cumulative GPA
- Provisional Admission2
Students who do not meet any of the above criteria and who would like to be given a chance to complete Honors classes can receive provisional admission to register for Honors classes if they have a minimum Broward College Cumulative GPA of 3.3 and if they provide the following:- A letter of recommendation from a faculty member
- A brief essay (1-2 pages in length, double-spaced) stating their reasons for wishing to be considered for the Honors program and their academic goals

Any combination of test scores can be used to determine eligibility.

If permitted to register for Honors classes, “Gap” Year and Provisional Admission students will only be eligible to receive Honors Scholarships and earn the Honors Certificate if they achieve and maintain a 3.5 Overall/Honors GPA while completing their coursework.
Additional Program Information
The Associate of Arts - Honors degree includes 36 credit hours of General Education and an additional 24 credit hours of electives. To earn the Honors AA degree, 18 of these 60 credit hours must be for earned Honors credit, including the HUM1020 FOUNDATIONS OF THE HUMANITIES in General Education and IDH2121 HONORS INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES. The elective credit hours should be selected based on the student’s transfer major. Students are encouraged to review the state’s Common Course Prerequisite Manual for additional guidance.
Location(s)
Honors courses are currently offered at the following college locations: North, Central, South, WHC, and Online. All non-Honors courses for the AA degree are offered at all college locations, including online. Please consult the course schedule for specific semester locations.
