CLO 1: 1.0 Students shall identify and employ the components of historical research and analysis and produce clearly organized, thoroughly developed writing assignments which express defensible conclusions based on historical analysis.
CLO 2: 2.0 Students shall identify, examine, and evaluate the social, political, economic and intellectual foundations of western civilization as it reached the apogee of its influence and power in the years immediately preceding the First World War. Students shall assess and interpret the course and character of the First World War, including its military, domestic, diplomatic, and global consequences.
CLO 3: 3.0 Students shall investigate, appraise, and explain the course of European postwar recovery and reconstruction in the decade following the armistice. Students shall assess the impact of the world depression on democratic states, its relation to the growing appeal of totalitarianism, and the emergence of totalitarian regimes during the interwar period.
CLO 4: 4.0 Students shall identify, examine, and evaluate the origins, parameters, course, and consequences of the Second World War.
CLO 5: 5.0 Students shall investigate, appraise, and explain the breakdown of the wartime alliance between the western nations and the USSR and the subsequent development of a Cold War. Students shall assess the development of the major European and American states since the 1950's and analyze their relations with the superpowers.

CLO 7: 7.0 Students shall analyze and explain the course of events in the Middle East since 1945, with attention to the Arab-Israeli struggle, and the impact of Arab nationalism and Islamic fundamentalism.
CLO 8: 8.0 Students shall examine and evaluate the post-Cold War world order, and assess the new roles for the United States, the movement toward European unity, the advance of democratic government in Latin America, the growing economic power of Asia, and the continuing challenges faced by African nations.
